Read all about this fantastic transformation project that went from an unusable space to a wonderful 14-piece, 26-user outdoor gym.
Moulsham Junior school caters for over 650 pupils from Year 3 to Year 6. Fitness and mental health are incredibly important to the school and so investment in sport equipment for both PE and general play time is high on the agenda.
They had a very old outdoor gym already installed in the school, which was more suitable for adults rather than equipment specifically designed for primary aged children, and that had fallen into disrepair. Understanding the benefits of outdoor gym equipment and wanted their new gym installed before the spring to make full use of it through the school year, they contacted Fresh Air Fitness for a solution.
Firstly the school wanted all the old equipment and surfacing uplifted and removed safely. In addition, they wanted the new outdoor gym to be large enough to cater for a whole class at a time, but it had to fit within the fenced off area designated to the outdoor gym.
Finally, all works, including the reinstatement of the area before the new safety surfacing was laid and full outdoor gym installation, needed to be completed within their time-scale of 6 weeks.
A 14 piece outdoor gym, for 26 children to use together, was installed with surfacing within the deadline provided. Carefully designed to maximise the space, ensure safe use, and offer a great variety of workout stations for the children, this fantastic facility provides 26 user stations.
The outdoor gym has already proved incredibly popular with the children. They use it during break-times and for PE lessons. Using a selection of our most popular pieces from our Children’s Range that has been designed specifically for key stage 1 & 2 aged children, the new gym offers variety, enjoyment and the 25 years warranty provides complete peace of mind that it’ll be fully functional for many years to come.
The kids have absolutely loved it! We took our circuit unit out there and they enjoyed. It is also a great tool for students in need of a brain break and I always see my class going on during break times as well. Definitely well liked!

I have really enjoyed using the equipment as I can have fun with my friends whilst exercising. I particularly like the cross-trainer where I can work with a partner.
