Lyme Regis is a pretty seaside resort which is situated on the Dorset coast. As a popular tourist destination, the needs of visitors as well as residents needed to be balanced with the leisure facilities available.
To support engagement with healthy outdoor activities, the Town Council looked to enhance facilities at an unused area in Lister Gardens by installing a state-of-the art, Fresh Air Fitness, outdoor gym.
The stunning site has a beautiful view overlooking the ocean. Whilst a fantastic location for a workout, the equipment chosen needed to be extremely high quality, durable and long lasting to withstand the ocean breeze as well as blending sympathetically with its natural surroundings.
In terms of equipment choices, the outdoor gym had to appeal to a predominantly retired community, however still provide a comprehensive range of equipment to offer a full body workout to a broad range of ages and abilities.
Fresh Air Fitness provided an outdoor gym with a hard wearing, coated paint system. This gives the same protection against rust as hot dipped galvanisation (HDG), whilst being more environmentally friendly, ensuring every surface of the product is completely protected from rust.
Fresh Air Fitness use this comprehensive coated paint system on every product in our range. Developed by AkzoNobel this process mimics that of HDG and certified for C4 corrosive environments – perfect for an outdoor gym with a seaside location!
The outdoor gym equipment chosen included our 17-user, award winning Big Rig, supplemented by several standalone pieces such as the Chest Press and Pull Down which are powered by body weight to create the intensity of the exercise. A cardio area was also installed and included the effective Double Air Walker and Air Skier to provide low impact exercise for the arms, core and legs.
As well as the compliance site sign, a bespoke Big Rig sign was designed and fitted to enhance the gym user experience and help them to get the most out of the equipment.
To celebrate the gyms opening, Fresh Air Fitness provided a free induction on a very well attended launch day to demonstrate how easy it is to use and enjoy the equipment.
Councillors and staff had the first go on the equipment and were all really impressed with the range of exercises available and how intuitive and enjoyable it was to use.
At Fresh Air Fitness, we have installed over 4,500 outdoor gyms nationwide.
Outdoor gyms can be found in local parks, green spaces, next to community centres, along trim trails and beside children’s playgrounds. For the general public, they are completely free to use and include a range of all-weather equipment which targets the whole body.
