EDUCATION - PRIMARY SCHOOLS
A new outdoor gym, located in the playground, was the perfect solution
Hammond School have an incredibly active PTA. After successfully running several fundraising schemes they had raised enough money to improve the outdoor facilities at the school. The school wanted something that would help children to be more active during playtime as well as improving the gym provision at the school. The PTA and school decided a new outdoor gym would be the perfect solution.
The PTA had a fixed budget to spend. Their priority was to provide enough stations for as many children as possible to use the gym during playtimes. The gym needed to be installed into the playground, directly into the existing concrete. It was also important to the school that the area was left neat, and worked around the existing playground markings. Since the outdoor gym needed to be installed while the school was open, there had to be minimal disruption.
A five piece outdoor gym, designed using equipment from the Children’s KS1 & 2 range. The gym included the Air Skier, Double Air Walker, Arm and Pedal Bike, and Seated Leg Press. These pieces are all excellent for raising the heart rate and getting the whole body moving, while developing flexibility, technique and control. One piece from our wellbeing range was also included, a Children’s Hip Twister, highly beneficial for stretching and warming up the body as well as improving balance.
In total, the gym provided 10 ‘user stations’ with space for 10 children to use the gym at any one time. Made up mostly of our multi-user stations, the equipment maximizes sociability during break-time.
‘Fresh Air Fitness came in on budget and installed the gym exactly as agreed. We are delighted to have such a variety of equipment and that so many children can use the gym at the same time’ comments Sam Britton, Business Lead for the Federation of Lightwater Schools. ‘We believe children learn best when they are motivated, engaged and enjoying what they do, and our outdoor gym ticks all these boxes. The children love using the equipment and best of all we have seen more children more active during their break-times because of it!’
It was a pleasure to work with Fresh Air Fitness on this project. They fully understood our needs and helped to build a solution that really met all our requirements

The children really engage with the equipment, they have fun using it and whilst doing this they are improving their health, fitness and gross motor skills. It is great to see the children enjoying the equipment so much’
