The leadership team at Godfrey Ermen recognise the importance of outdoor play and exercise to boost physical and mental wellbeing during break times, after school and in PE.
The school supports the science behind the long-term implications of learning healthy lifestyles, and how, by incorporating movement into your day, it creates good habits well into adulthood.
Whilst exercise and outdoor play has benefits for all, it was also recognised that not all children enjoy competitive team sports and that outdoor gym equipment provides an opportunity for users of all abilities to engage in fun and accessible exercise that challenge the body and the mind.
It was considered that if children get to experience a wide range of sport and exercise, they are more likely to find an activity that they enjoy and can pursue well beyond their time at Godfrey Ermen, so they reached out to Fresh Air Fitness to install an exciting new outdoor gym.
The school had an old trim trail which was end of life with a badly degraded surface.
The team wanted to transform the entire area and remove the old trim trail and replace with long-lasting, high quality outdoor gym equipment. The equipment had to be fun and engaging whilst exercising the whole body, with options to improve balance and co-ordination, develop muscle tone and improve teamwork.
The new installation was an opportunity to engage pupils that were not inspired with the existing offers for sport and exercise. It needed to be exciting and interesting to encourage engagement to boost their physical as well as mental health, and support focus in the classroom.
The school selected and installed our 15 User Bumper Package which is our most popular package for children in Key Stages 1 & 2. Within this package, the outdoor gym equipment consists of 6 of our most popular products which allow 15 pupils to exercise at once.
The outdoor gym is full of dynamic, moving pieces that children love to use as they exercise and play.

The project was completed with a rubber mulch safety surface and new artificial grass with edging.
What a transformation. Our tired old trim trail has been revitalised and looks exciting, fresh, and smart. The area is now transformed providing a much wider and more interesting set of activities for pupils to enjoy
