Resistance Range Series part 2 – The Resistance Stepper

In Part 1 of our Resistance Series of blogs, we highlighted how Resistance Training is the key to building lean muscle mass. Lean muscle mass is central to protecting our bones as we age and promotes a healthy lifestyle, which in turn helps the body fight illness and stress.

Here we discuss the Resistance Stepper, part of our innovative Resistance Range.

The Resistance Stepper

Just like steppers found in an indoor gym, our outdoor Resistance Stepper works in the same way with all of the added benefits of the fresh air and natural daylight.

The resistance stepper comes with an integrated dial which allows the user to set the required difficulty from level 1-11.

Suitable for all abilities, users new to fitness simply select the lowest intensity while those who workout regularly can set themselves a much harder challenge using a higher level.

Body Benefits

A very instinctive piece of equipment to use, if your goal is to build strength, endurance, or simply to get moving, the Resistance Stepper is an excellent addition to add to your regular workout routine.

The Resistance Stepper targets the muscles in your legs, to strengthen and tone them, in particular the quadriceps, hamstrings and calf muscles. The motion of stepping also engages the largest muscles in the body, the glutes.

The balance required to use the stepper activates the muscles of your core, working to strengthen and tone them too.

The motion of stepping, activates your heart and lungs, improving overall cardiovascular fitness.

How to use the Resistance Stepper

First, set the desired level of resistance for your workout, simply by turning the dial at the base of the machine.

Step on up! Make sure you have any extras you may need such as a water bottle, workout playlist, and towel. Grip the handles in front of you. Remember the handles are there to provide stability and balance, not to support your entire body weight.

Start to step at your desired speed. You can go slow and steady for targeted toning benefits or go faster if you’re focused on cardio. You should feel the burn in your glutes, hamstrings, quads, and calves.

Workout Plan Suggestion

Cardiovascular training refers to the conditioning of the heart, lungs, and vasculature. For this to kick in you will need to aim to keep an elevated heart rate for an extended period of time. If you're just getting started or using the stepper for a warm up, hop on and get going for around 10 minutes to get the heart rate up.

If you are using the stepper only for today’s workout consider using it for around 30 minutes.

Note: Do not push yourself too far beyond your limits. Consult with your GP if you have any concerns, or issues with your balance, blood pressure, or heart health.

Does the Resistance Stepper burn calories?

It certainly does!

As the stepping motion works the muscles in the legs and bottom, when these muscles contract, the body burns off calories. Furthermore, as you increase the amount of lean muscle in the body, you burn more calories while at rest between your workouts too.

10 minutes stepping burns approximately: 100 calories

30 minutes stepping burns approximately: 300 calories
