Sunday 29th September is National Get Outside Day! A day dedicated to encouraging people of all ages to get outside. National mapping agency The Ordnance Survey (OS) is urging people to mark this month’s Get Outside Day by embracing the great outdoors, enjoying being active in nature and reaping all the physical and emotional benefits it brings.
25th September 2024
Ordnance Survey says: “Our aim is to inspire more people to explore the great outdoors, whether through walking, running, cycling or just spending time in green spaces. National Get Outside Day is a great reminder of the pleasures of outdoor activities and gives people, families and communities the chance to connect with nature.”
There are so many ways to get active outdoors, from a stroll in a local park to a rigorous, day-long hike in rugged terrain. But the OS is encouraging everyone to leave the house and join in this established annual event, whatever their age and whatever their ability or fitness level.
Your local outdoor gym is the perfect place to get involved. Celebrate the benefits of outdoor exercise with an al fresco workout at any time on the 29th. After all, the clocks still won’t have gone back, so you’ll have all day to fit in a work-out. Find your nearest Fresh Air Fitness gym here.
Equally, if you’re a local authority, school, residential home or similar and are lucky enough to have one of our gyms, you have the perfect opportunity to encourage your community to make the most of their amenity with an exercise session on 29 September.
You can make a key difference to this nationwide event. So add your voice to the campaign to make it as successful as possible. And you can do that by promoting the message of National Get Outside day among your members, residents, pupils or other group. Urge users of your outdoor gym to share photos of the facility on the day with the hashtag #GetOutsideDay.
Supporting National Get Outside Day helps to promote a healthier and more active lifestyle, so what better campaign to align with, and something which resonates strongly with others all over the UK.
As the OS adds:
“Together we can inspire more individuals to discover the beauty and benefits of the outdoors, whether that’s just for a few minutes, or a whole day.”
