Interestingly, although average life expectancy has increased, the number of years of healthy life has not. In other words as life expectancy has increased so have the health care costs. Added to this the proportion of the population over the age of 55 is also rising. This creates a double problem for the NHS.
In a new report published by ukactive, the not-for-profit advocacy group for physical activity, the NHS could save over £7 billion a year if just 30% of those over 55 who are currently inactive were supported to be active over the next 10 years. Read the full article here
