Receiving the PE and Sport Premium is a wonderful opportunity to raise the profile of PE in your school and to truly engage children in physical activity.

We all know the importance of children exercising regularly. Not only will it benefit their health now, reducing obesity, improving muscular strength and build strong bones, but it also sets them up for a healthy life. According to a study by Public Health, “Fit in 50 Years,” regular exercise in childhood increases the odds of staying physically active and healthy during adulthood.
Research carried out by Sport England shows that the single biggest factor in children being motivated to be active is enjoyment.
A recent survey by Fresh Air Fitness taken by hundreds of children of Primary school age showed some significant things.
96% of children enjoyed using their outdoor gym and felt it made the school a better place and 85% of children said they had done more exercise since it had been installed. Furthermore, 75% felt that using the outdoor gym helps their work in the classroom.
So not only can spending your PE and Sport premium money on this equipment enhance activity levels and enjoyment of physical activity but it can also enhance academic success, influence positive behaviours to learning and in learning.
Pupils see their outdoor gym as making their engagement in school ‘better’. Providing frequent and regular access to the outdoor gym in school, through both informal and formal use, can help pupils feel positive about coming to school.
Investing in children’s exercise equipment effectively is complex. It needs to be suitable for a range of ages and abilities, it needs to meet the needs of the school and all the children attending the school now and in future years. It is a significant investment and with a growing number of companies offering a variety of solutions, where do you start and how do you know you are getting safe, compliant equipment that will benefit the children?
